Following the breakout success of their 1999 debut Ghetto Swing Extreme!, the Yalloppin’ Hounds returned with their bold second album, New Yalloppin’ City—a project that cemented their place as pioneers of the Jazz/Hip-Hop hybrid known as Ghetto Swing or Swing-Hop.
Led by saxophonist, composer, and emcee Joey “G-Clef da Mad Komposa” Cavaseno, the Hounds entered a new era with a refreshed lineup and a renewed mission: push the boundaries between classic swing, streetwise hip-hop, and New York attitude. Recorded between December 2000 and April 2001, the album blends virtuosic jazz musicianship with gritty rhymes, soulful hooks, and the raw energy of the five boroughs.
A rotating cast of “Hounds” brings character and fire to every track, creating a sound that is both deeply musical and unapologetically urban. From hard-hitting anthems like “Romantic Thugz” and “Thugbrat,” to the introspective “The Reason for My Pain,” to tributes like “Jacquet, Here’s Ya Jacket?”, New Yalloppin’ City stands as one of the most inventive and fearless crossover albums of its time.
